چکیده

INTRODUCTION Quantitative water/fat separation in MRI requires careful modeling of the acquired signal. Multiple signal models have been proposed in recent years, but their relative performance has not yet been established. This abstract presents a comparative study of 12 signal models for water/fat separation. The models were selected according to three criteria: magnitude or complex fitting [1-4], single-peak or multi-peak fat spectrum [2,5], and modeling of T2* (or R2*=1/T2*) decay [2,6]. The study uses theoretical Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) results, simulation results, phantom and in vivo data. Comparisons are based on the bias and standard deviation of fat amplitude and fat fraction estimates.

Compressed sensing for chemical shift-based water-fat separation.

Multi echo chemical shift-based water-fat separation methods allow for uniform fat suppression in the presence of main field inhomogeneities. However, these methods require additional scan time for chemical shift encoding. This work presents a method for water-fat separation from undersampled data (CS-WF), which combines compressed sensing and chemical shift-based water-fat separation. Undersam...

Comparison of magnitude and complex data fitting for quantitative water/fat imaging

INTRODUCTION Magnitude fitting has been proposed as an alternative to complex data fitting for quantitative chemical shift-encoded water/fat imaging. Advantages of magnitude fitting include the removal of sensitivity to phase errors in the signal (e.g., caused by eddy currents) [1] and suppression of B0 field inhomogeneity effects (i.e., removal of one nonlinear parameter from the signal model)...

Chemical shift MR imaging methods for the quantification of transcatheter lipiodol delivery to the liver: preclinical feasibility studies in a rodent model.

PURPOSE To demonstrate the feasibility of using chemical shift magnetic resonance (MR) imaging fat-water separation methods for quantitative estimation of transcatheter lipiodol delivery to liver tissues. MATERIALS AND METHODS Studies were performed in accordance with institutional Animal Care and Use Committee guidelines. Proton nuclear MR spectroscopy was first performed to identify lipiodo...

Spiral water-fat imaging with integrated off-resonance correction on a clinical scanner.

PURPOSE To integrate water-fat-resolved spiral gradient-echo imaging with off-resonance correction into a clinical MR scanner and to evaluate its basic feasibility and performance. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three-point chemical shift imaging was implemented with forward and strongly T(2)*-weighted reverse spiral sampling and with off-resonance correction after water-fat separation. It was applied...

Quantification of susceptibility-induced fat resonance shift on chemical shift-based water/fat separation of skeletal muscle

Introduction: The quantification of skeletal muscle fatty infiltration is important in assessing risk factors for metabolic abnormalities (like obesity and diabetes) [1] and in monitoring the progression of myopathies [2]. Muscular fat includes intramyocellular lipids (IMCLs) that are approximated as spherical droplets within myocytes and extramyocellular lipids (EMCLs) that are approximated as...
